Presence detection is the key difference between the active and passive technology. At the scale of logistics it’s a major difference. Passive technology is struggling for throughtput vs. failure rate. The INGECOM technology senses in a fully auto-matic way the presence of the tags. It displays in real time the tags that are in range, when they are in range. Building a solution on this concept is very straightforward, allows for reduced software costs.
For real life application, the localization doesn’t mean to pinpoint an object in 3D. A typical application in hospital is to look for a specific item. In this case the granularity of the research is the one of a room. The low-cost readers from INGECOM allow to build such infrastructure at a price comparable to a WiFi network.
For logistics, TRACEABILITY refers to the capability for tracing goods along the distribution chain on a batch number or series number basis. The series number is associated to the unique identifier of each of the active tag. Traceability is an important aspect of many industries where the link to the origin of the manufacturing is important, especially for health and safety issues.
